4.0 AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF MATI ILONGA
4.1 MATI Ilonga aims at:
- Training technical personnel for agricultural sector who will manage agricultural production programmes at all agricultural production levels
- Participate in the practical implementation of agricultural extension service delivery through students' outreach and field practical attachment programmes
- Offer vocational training for farmers through Local Government Authorities (LGAs)
- Add value to crops through processing and packaging
- Provide conducive training environment so that the learning process becomes effective
- Provide facilities and support within the resources of the institute for the benefit of the surrounding communities
- Offer training geared towards preparing trainees for self-employment
4.2 Objectives
- Improve human resources of the institute through training to meet the highest demand
- Possible work performance in their job in both quality and quantity
- Improve the quality of current training programmes through reviews which lead into curriculum that addresses client needs
- Conduct specific training to smallholder key farmers who will train other farmers on aspects of improved productivity of target crops, animals and sustainable natural resource management
- Provide specific knowledge and skills regarding food crop processing and packaging to farmers in anticipation that they will apply the knowledge and skills to establish crop processing and packaging associations/societies at their communities. Thus, add value to crop and animal products
- Work in collaboration with other development partners in and outside the country to ensure success of efforts made to develop agriculture in the farming communities
